Dear Jane: Family Reunion

Completed a second Dear Jane block today.  Since my lab was just cleaned, I didn't want a paper pieced block.  I make such a mess when paper piecing!

Block C-12 titled Family Reunion is a nine patch block that incorporates five tiny nine patch blocks ;-).  I still haven't bothered with the CD, but found rotary cutting instructions here.  So nice to have someone else do the math!

Did I mention I am using my featherweight to piece all the Dear Jane blocks?  My sister is using her featherweight too in making her Farmer's Wife blocks.  She helped me realize what I thought was a 1/4" foot is actually an 1/8" foot....that explains a lot.

My machine came with all sorts of feet, attachments and accessories, but no 1/4" foot that I could see.

This foot is conveniently stored in a box labeled with its use.

I have no clue, however, the purpose of this foot.

I do know what to do with these!  The previous owner was kind enough to include a variety of colorful bobbins.

My sister and I have each made two blocks so far.  It's a start ;-)  I'm hoping to have my 1/4" stitch figured out before my next block.

If Michelle doesn't show her work soon on her blog, I may have to ask permission to show them here.  I especially love the Rainbow Block she just finished.  (Hope I'm not in trouble now.)

Happy stitching!

  1. wow, lots of great attachments. I see a straight line quilting guide in there, and lucky you for having a walking foot. I don't have either of those. What I don't see is the screw in guide that you can set at 1/4 inch. it screws into the bed of your machine so it creates a wall beside your seam. I don't think I'm explaining it well, but I think if you check out Singer seam guides on google, you will find a picture.

  2. Beautiful! The blocks with the tiny nine-patches are my favorites in the Dear Jane quilt!

  3. I love your block!! And the tiny little nine-patches...so glad it's your block and not mine ;-) Whew!! I'm not quite ready to tackle the tiny piecing yet. BTW...you aren't in trouble (yet), but what a great idea!! Hopefully, I'll get a posting done this weekend. And who knows, maybe even get another FW block done :)

  4. You're going to have to start brushing up on your FMQ skills, you know, so you can quilt your DJ Kaffe quilt the way that one at Green fairy Quilts was. ;-)

I think that might be your ruffler attachment. I'll pull my book out tonight and check.

My Nearly Insane quilt (which is my version of the DJ, basically) is all paper pieced on my Featherweight, too. It's the only way to go!

  5. I think that foot is a ruffler foot. I think I know how to use it.

You can get a nice, clear, plastic 1/4" foot for your Featherweight. I got one and love it. It has markings on it so you know when you're 1/4" from the edge of the fabric, too. Wonderful.

    Your block is just beautiful!
