Friday Finish: Baby Chevron

Today I assembled the chevron blocks into quilt top, and it's now a flimsy.

Chevron quilt top
I actually used a pattern for this baby chevron quilt.  It's from Generation Q magazine and can be found here.

Another view
The printed fabric is Savannah Bop and the solids are from different manufacturers.

How's that for a short and sweet post?!
Happy Friday!!!!!

Really Random Thursday: Road Trip

Last weekend I attended my first college football game of the season.   Let me tell you it was a hot one!

How hot is it?
I discreetly took a picture of this young girl sitting in front of us.  The back of her t-shirt should give you an indication of the temperature.  Thankfully this weekend's game is a night one.  Just to be safe I don't think I'll wear a colored bra under my white shirt ;-)

What does it all mean?
We spotted this license plate while driving in the college town.  It provoked a discussion as to the meaning.  Some thought it meant the young driver was thanking his/her daddy for buying him/her a nice expensive car.  I'd like to think the driver there was also a debate as the gender of the driver was making a statement that he owed everything to his parents for providing such a good education, etc. What do you think?

Not So Close....My Lawyer is
This bumper sticker caught my eye while driving my daughter to school.  I smudged the name of the law firm and the driver's license plate because this is a commercial free blog! to protect the identity of all involved ;-)

So true!
The Arts League at my daughter's school has a clever theme for this year, wouldn't you agree?

Judy's quilt inspiration -  Florence, Italy
Speaking of art....my good friend just returned from a trip to Italy.  She doesn't quilt but met a nice woman from Houston who does.  Maybe between her friend Judy and I we can convert her!  She shared this photo Judy took in Italy that would make a great quilt.

Moo cards
My friend didn't remember my blog address to tell her new friend, so when we had lunch yesterday I passed out some of my quilt cards.  You never know when they may meet other quilters on their travels, not to mention I'd like them to read my blog once in a while ;-)

Yes it does!
I forgot to show this package last week.  In addition to the baby quilt for Leo, my friend brought my husband a tiny box of cigars.  Love the contrary, but oh so true, sticker on the box.

Love and Peace
How cool are these peace pretzels?  If you haven't noticed by now I have a thing for peace signs.  These pretzels are also pretty tasty.

So, that's my really random Thursday.  How random was yours?

What's Up Wednesday: Happy

Yesterday I spent most of the day in my sewing room (which makes me happy) working on a few WIPs and finishing a little happy for a special friend!

Glimpse of the back
I can only give you a peek since it's a surprise.  Shhh...don't tell.
There is quite a bit of white in this project and just as I was about to give the entire finish a final pressing, I noticed my iron had melted the top of one of my glass jars.  Don't know how that happened.

Major obstacle to finishing
Thankfully I noticed the sticky goop in time.  With all that white, what a mess that would have been.  Since this is the only iron I own, out I went to buy some iron cleaner AND a new iron.  I am pretty sure I cleaned off all the residue, but I wasn't taking any chances with this gift, so I used the NEW iron!

Old photo, but you get the idea
I didn't take any updated pictures, but I joined several rows of the baby chevron quilt.  I like to work on more than one project at a time.  Don't ask me why.

Playing with paper and fabric
I've been wanting to make cards with small snippets of fabric, and I finally played around with that.  I used an old needle and made sure my stitch length was longer, but I still need to work on the tension.

Good to remember
I've shown this photo before, but sometimes I need the reminder.
I am happy that later today I am joining two good friends for lunch.  Can't wait!

What are you up to this Wednesday?

Friday Finish: Gifts

Getting back into the sewing groove has been slow going.  My middlest has a birthday coming up and I whipped up a little mug rug for his dorm room.

Collegiate Mug Rug
I started work on another project, but it isn't anywhere close to being finished and maybe I'll get in completed by next Friday.

Happy Birthday Leo
A dear friend made a quilt for Leo and gave it to him on his birthday (three months).  I just love the bright colors and fun prints.

Quilt gift
These are the only pictures I took of the quilt (and with my cell phone) before it flew away with Leo.

Hope's handmade
Look how cute Hope's labels are.
Good friends and handmade quilts are beautiful things!!!!

Happy Friday my friends!

Really Random Thursday: Three Weeks Worth

I hope the "three weeks worth" portion of the title doesn't scare readers off.   I sure did miss these Really Random Thursday posts during my hiatus.   I promise not to show 500+ baby pictures after all, I haven't edited them yet! and I took advantage of the PicStitch app to prepare mosaics so it won't look like there are too many of common-themed pictures.

How many relatives does it take to make a baby smile?!
During Leo's visit to Florida, he was exposed to a variety of unique experiences: flying on an airplane (even though he has already ridden too many times in an ambulance and helicopter), tropical storms, Gators (of the animal AND human kind), shopping, celebrating and meeting the paparazzi family and friends.

Then and Now - Four Generations
Since Leo and his parents live on the other side of the world it's a minimum 5 hour plane ride and then a 2-3 hour drive and ferry ride to get to Leo's house, many friends and family members have not had the opportunity to meet Leo until now.  My son was happy that so many people took advantage of them being in Florida to visit.
Tracking Isaac with Leo...it's not a good thing when your hometown is mentioned in the same newscast as a hurricane
For some family members, visiting Leo in Florida coincided with their evacuation from the Gulf Coast and Hurricane/Tropical Storm/ Tropical Depression Isaac!

Family came from far and wide to meet Leo
Others came to visit on their way to/from college football games.
Beware of those Gators!
I made sure opposing team fans were not here at the same time!
Leo had to be changed into and out of his different college game day onesies depending on who was visiting.
Friends wanted in on the Leo action too.
There was one moment when Leo's Mom (who is not a big football fan and who had to be educated on the fact that the Chick-fil-A Bowl is not an entree but an important football game....but we still love her!) dressed Leo in the wrong outfit and offended one of our friends ;-)

So many different colleges represented in our family - but everyone knows no Gator stuff allowed.

Even though our family is completely obsessed with FSU into football, we knew better than to take a two-month-old to a college football game in the Florida heat.  It was such a hot day that my daughter found relief in the shade of the car trunk.

Leo is crying cause he couldn't go to the game....Go Noles!
Leo turned three months old while he was here, so we had to have a party!

You are 3 Months Old now!
Appropriately enough, it was also Grandparent's Day!!!

Did you see this video produced by AARP?  It's not as fun as the USA Olympic swimming team's version of Call Me Maybe, but it's pretty cute.

Raspberry and Chocolate - it just goes together!
One last thing.  Did you know that today is International Chocolate Day?  Well, it is.  Think I may enjoy a few of these Raspberry M&M's to commemorate the occasion.

So....how random is your Thursday?

What's Up Wednesday: Back to Business

So.....where did we leave off?  Oh yeah, last time I posted was back in August some time, and that was from my iPad.  Since then I have spent 21 glorious days holding and getting to know my little grandson better.  Of course, it took me flying out to Washington and bringing him back to Florida with me, but I don't think he minded!  I did make two exceptions to my promise of 24/7 Leo time:  registering for QuiltCon and attending September's Orlando MQG meeting.

Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts made by OMQG members
Now that Leo and his parents have returned to their home Far, Far Away, I am getting back to business.  It's a good thing that I have so much business to get back to because I think I will need that distraction.

All these made by Michele at Nostalgic Cafe
I collected 11 Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts from OMQG members that need to be registered.  I am, after all, a goddess - a Temporary Goddess of Registration that is.

Leo had plenty of quilts for lounging
I shared Leo occasionally, for example, when family and friends visited or when registration for QuiltCon opened!  Who else is attending next February?  For what workshops and lectures did you register?  I am excited to attend with our OrlandoMQG officers and to meet MQG members from guilds all over!  My QuiltCon agenda is so jam packed with workshops and lectures that I can't remember them all.  I do know that I signed up for classes with Penny and Jacquie, and I can.not.wait.to.finally.meet.them!!!!!

OMQG members are generous with their talents

Since I only shared Leo occasionally, I did not get anything done in the way of sewing, reading, blogging, cleaning, cooking (except for our goodbye meal), writing or exercising (which I didn't mind skipping).  All these things can be done now that I don't get to have my time with Leo {sigh}...

Love these Christmas themed quilts for AAQI

As I mentioned, it's a good thing I have plenty of things to keep me busy and distracted.  Because I may not have enough projects already started, I pulled out my Cosmo threads and a scrap of denim to begin a new mini quilt.

Start of a new project
Can you tell what will design will become of these french knots?  If so, you have brilliant insight!

I only took 500 pictures of Leo?!!!
So what's up with you this Wednesday?
See you tomorrow for Really Random Thurday!
