Quilt Class

The first, and only, quilt class I took was at Queen Ann's Lace back in 2004.  There were four of us girls in the class, and we each made a lap quilt using the rail fence pattern.  I enjoyed my classmates and the class.

The faces have been removed to protect the innocent ;-))  Looking back at these pictures and thinking of the experience, I realize I really should take more quilting classes.  I need to expand my quilting abilities.....broaden my horizons....learn to think outside the box.....

This is the lap quilt that I made.  I named it AMERICA for my son Eric and the patriotic fabrics included.  Picking out the fabrics was the hardest part of this class.  No charm packs, jelly rolls, layer cakes or other coordinating fabric lines were allowed (maybe not even invented then)!!!

Here is Eric all snuggled up in his quilt.  Isn't he a cutie?  Of course, he's a teenager with a driver's license now, and the lap size doesn't fit any more.  I have since made him a bigger quilt.
Have an amazing day!!!

  2. What a fabulous memory! I've never taken a quilt class...the money always seemed to be needed by my now teenaged sons...braces, Tae Kwan Do, soccer, basketball...Xbox! LOL I appreciate and know the same kind of love you've put into your son's quilt...it's like giving them a big hug even though they think it's gross...our "arms" are around them whenever they use their quilts!
    Blessings, dear soul!

  4. I love that quilt. It's beautiful. And good job for cutting out all of the fabric yourself. That's half the challenge sometimes.

  5. Rene, I am a self taught quilter, I just started taking a few classes here and there a few years ago...I always learn something, even if it is a technique I have been doing for a while... And it's simply fun to meet more quilters!

  6. I love your quilt! I've never taken a quilting class, but always thought it would be lots of fun. I did have a friend give me a few beginning lessons a few years ago, and since then I've just been learning on my own. I think I'll have to look into taking an actual class. Thanks!

  7. I learned split rail and 9 patch in my first class. My first 10 quilts were variations of those blocks! I'm glad I finally tried something new! I like learning new things but prefer to sew at home....it's a quandary.

The picture of Eric with his quilt is priceless!!
