Start and Finish

I am starting 2012 by showing you my last finish of 2011!

AAQI #9041 Bubbles
The day before our family left on Christmas vacation, I turned a blind eye to my messy house, ignored the laundry, packing, gift-wrapping, unaddressed Christmas cards and other chores that were calling my name, and instead attended our guild's holiday Sew Day.  Wise decision on my part ;-)

With helpful suggestions, encouragement and reassurance from my quilting friends, I made my December's Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt right before the deadline.

The background is denim from an old pair of my husband's jeans.  The flannel (donated to the guild) and corduroy circles were cut with my AccuQuilt Go cutter.  With variegated thread and using my darning foot, I attached the circles by sewing a spiral.  I quilted a pebble (or bubble...hence the name...ha) design in the negative space.  The backing and binding is a soft corduroy green.

Sew Day was just what I needed!  The above picture (thanks Kathryn) shows our happy faces after opening our swap packages.  Beth received my Going in Circles mini (look familiar?....too big for AAQI), and I was the lucky recipient of Michele's Be Merry! mini and cute tree ornament!

I snapped a quick photo of my new quilts before heading to the airport.  Thanks so much Michele!!!

  6. I just bought this one for Gabby's Kindergarten teacher. Her grandmother passed away last Friday with Alzheimer's and they were very close. Since she loves polka dots, I thought there was no better way to honor her memory.
