Originally Titled...

...Finish It!!! ...now titled... I Must Be Insane!

Do you remember this project from way back when?  Well, I've been hesitant to move forward because I have no clue as how to proceed.   I was inspired by reading this post by Nina Lise (who was motivated by Nicole) who issued a challenge to pick a project and commit to Finish It!

I'm not sure if you can tell much by this picture (lousy photo quality...it's all I got), but I did manage to stitch in some detail in the flower petals.  There isn't much contrast right now between the fabric and the thread.  With this thread, I'm outlining each petal and some lines inside.  I plan to use other contrasting threads to give depth and dimension...hopefully.  My machine did not cooperate, and the top thread kept breaking.  I reread my machine's manual and several books I had on thread painting, photo inspired art quilts, machine applique to name a few.  I tried their suggestions, but the thread continued to break.  After a couple of hours with not much to show for my time, I took a break.  However, I met the requirements for Finish It!  At least for this week.
Thank you girls for the nudge!!

Visit Orlando Modern Quilt Guild

The above button is why I should have named this post I Must Be Insane!  Not because I joined the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild.  No.  Not because I added those two cute buttons on my sidebar that read Modern Siggy Swap and Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along.  No.

It's because I let Alissa talk me into starting the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild!!!  Actually, I'm glad she did, and I am really excited about this new venture.  You should go visit Handmade by Alissa, and read all the information she posted about how The Modern Quilt Guild is branching out to many different areas.  You may find one coming to a town near you!!!  If you are in central Florida (or know a quilter who is), please click on the link to join me!!!!  I'm feeling kind of lonely right now!

In between signing up for swaps, quilt alongs and forming new quilt guilds, I did manage to get some work done on my studio makeover.  However, I have no pictures to share at the moment.  Maybe next time.

Have an amazing day!!!

  1. Hey Renee, Jodie from over at Flickr tried to find an email for you but couldn't thought I would comment here for you to see it. I know exactly where you are talking about, because my husband's father was Army 27years and we used to go to the PX when it was there and we were dating and then first married. When we built our house when first married we lived on Valencia College lane in a neighborhood being built from 94-2000 when we moved up here. So yes I used to go to fashion square mall and the Joann's that are right there.
I was looking at you modern quilt guild, didn't know if maybe I could join even being in Ocala? Was not sure exactly what you guy were going to be doing. If you wouldn't mind you could email me at simplykidsocala@yahoo.com that way I will not take up your comment space.
    Thanks,
    Jodie

  4. Wow! Good luck with the guild - one is starting here in Chicago, too. I think they're all going to be great fun, and we'll learn a lot along the way!
