Wonderful Wednesday!

Please allow me to brag like a proud mama for a moment.

This is my daughter playing Silent Night on the harp during the Band and Strings Christmas Concert.  She also played Christmas Time is Here with the strings, but the harp is hard to hear over the cellos and violins, so luckily you are spared that video.

This sweet little girl also plays the flute.  I restrained myself and did not post a video of Jingle Bells by the beginning band.

Please overlook the poor camera and video quality.  So as not to be obtrusive nor make her nervous, these were shot from our seats in the auditorium with a little camera and iPhone.

Another Christmas Gift

As I've mentioned before, I finally settled on using leftover Picnic Parade coin blocks for my sister-in-law's quilt.

These are the blocks I have left over.  I also have a set of fat quarters from this line.  I just love this fabric.  I had planned to make a quilt for myself with these soft, lovely prints.

I got an idea from this quilt to do something different.  As I look back at the link, however, I realize it has turned into another something different.  I've been having fun just taking the leftover blocks, scraps and fat quarters...throwing in some KONA cotton...piecing...rotary cutting...and just seeing what happens.

My mom sent me these cute flower pins.  I had admired hers over Thanksgiving.  Thanks Mom!!!  Love you.

Angel Tree

Again, I am asking for suggestions on my latest project.  Keep in my mind that I have not squared the blocks yet.

This quilt is for a toddler boy registered with our church's Angel Tree project.  I am using Amanda Jean's filmstrip pattern which alternates the rows as shown above.

A friend suggested instead that I layout the quilt this way to spread out the white-bordered blocks.  What do you think?

These two blocks will replace the polka dot blocks on the top row last block on the right and the block on the fourth row fourth block on the right.  I thought there wasn't much of a contrast between that polka dot print and the white.

  

I am thinking of using the dots for the backing and the stripes for the binding...or should I use the stripes for backing and dots for binding?  I wanted to stay away from your typical novelty fabrics, while at the same time giving it a warm, boyish feel.  I plan to quilt in a grid pattern.

I have made quilts for Project Linus and Margaret's Hope Chest before, and those quilts obviously go to a child, but I've never made a quilt knowing it will go to a specific child, but one that I have not met.  This quilt was requested by a mom for her son for Christmas, so I really want it to be nice.  Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Sew & Tell Friday #9

I only have a little project to share today ...

...this one lonely wine bag.  More wine bags are waiting to be created.

I did receive two of the coin quilts back from the longarmer today.  I washed and dried them so now they are ready to go except for the labels.

Wendy did another great job choosing the quilt design and thread.  I've learned to just leave it up to her.  I'm thinking of calling this quilt Sweet Pea.

The sun was going to sleep when I took these pictures, but there is rain in the forecast for tomorrow, so I went with low lighting and no rain.  I really like the quilting on this one too.  I requested different but similar for the three.  How about Cotton Candy for this quilt?  Is there a guide book for naming quilts?  You know like Baby Name books?  If not, there should be.

New Projects

Instead of finished projects, I will show you projects I need would like to finish start.

My friend asked me to make a quilt for a little boy that is registered with their church's Angel Tree. I plan to make Amanda Jean's filmstrip quilt pattern using some Alexander Henry and Amy Butler LOVE fabric I have in my stash.

I still can't settle on a pattern and fabric for my SIL's quilt.  Time is running out for making Christmas gifts.  I have leftover blocks from the third Coin quilt along with fat quarters from that Picnic Parade line that I will probably use to put together a quick simple quilt top....hopefully.

Then there is all this cool Christmas fabric I have.

I would like to make these cute Christmas tree hot pads.  The pattern is from Kathy at Pink Chalk Fabrics....

and these wine bags for friends.....

....and then there is this snowman Christmas panel....as well as numerous other Christmas gifts I would like to make for family and friends.  What to do???!!!!

Packages...sent and received

The last of the giveaway prizes I won arrived yesterday.  Now I feel like I can enter other giveaways without feeling guilty ;-))  This one is from Gudrun of GE Designs.

Ironically, now that my color wheel project is complete, the Cosmo threads I ordered arrived yesterday. There had been a mixup with my order.  The company graciously sent me two cuts of MODA Flutterby fabric for the confusion.   The Cosmo threads are supposed to be smooth as silk and easier to work with compared to DMC threads.  I guess I will find out if I decide to use them on the large color wheel.
