My IKEA shelves are finally assembled thanks to my handyman friend Jorge!!!

I spent some time yesterday sorting my fabric.  As you can see, I still have a long way to go, but during the process I made some observations:  I have way too much pink fabric; I seem to like purple if it is batik;  I can't seem to cut into my Hope Valley fabric; my fabric inventory confirms that I like blue and green but not orange (again it's a FSU/Gator thing); and that no matter how much space you have, you always need more ;-)

The fabric that was in these bins is now neatly folded, sorted and looking pretty on my shelves.

These two big rubbermaid containers, red bag and box hold fabric that needs to be sorted.

Here's a peek inside the red bag.  OMQG member Beth brought back all these scraps from her week in Kansas City sewing for veterans.  I think I'm going to put these in grab bags for a future guild challenge.

Speaking of which, here is the "ugly" fabric I received for our guild challenge.  In my opinion, it's not ugly at all.  Still, I can't decide what to do with it.  We don't have any rules other than to use this fabric in a project for October's show and tell.  Any suggestions?

Have an amazing day!!!

  1. nice shelves - looks great - yeah that fabric is UGLY! maybe a fall table runner where you can cut it up into smaller pieces ?

  2. Those shelves are fab!!
A challenge with no rules...you could do anything!! (I don't think the fabric is ugly...it is just a bit busy!!) Maybe you should play up the orange (since it is a challenge for October) and do some sort of patchwork table runner or bag or something that you could use for the Fall. A bento box block with orange could be cute!

  3. You've got loads of room in those shelves for more fabric! It's got to feel good to be able to see it all and know what you have.

That fabric isn't ugly. I think it is fantastic looking. Have you ever seen the "Bagsket" tutorial? They are great bags to hold supplies in and that's what I'd make with that fabric.

  4. I don't think that fabric is ugly. It almost looks a bit "techie", so how about using it in a laptop sleeve?

  5. Great shelves! How nice to put everything there in order! About the 'ugly' fabric which is very nice - I don't know what it's going to be, but I see those happy orange, blue and white colours and I would combine other fabrics in those colours to pick them more 'out'.
I hope I can see how it's going to be.
    Congratulations for your wonderful blog!

  6. Those Ikea shelves are amazing! I wonder which colors I have too much/too little of...need to sort my stash!

  7. You've been busy! I love your shelves . . .

  8. Good luck on oganazing your shelves, Rene'!
The ugly fabric looks good to me too; have fun with it.-)
