Happy Friday again! These Sew and Tell Fridays make me realize how fast time goes by.
Now, restrain yourself from getting too excited over the complicated project I am showing you. I needed a little something for a last minute teacher's gift. My daughter helped me make these bookmarks.
Here's the flip side. Two will go to my daughter's teacher with a Barnes and Noble gift card. I'm going to keep two on hand with the extra gift card I bought for when I forget a gift emergencies.
Whew! For a while there, I thought the bookmarks were all I had to share today. But, I was able to find time to work on my Amish project. I finished adding the aqua and black stripes since the last time. The liberated part of the stripes was having different widths and a little bit of wavy going on. I'm not sure about the red border, but it is what it is.
Part of the Liberated Amish Get Together's challenge was to add letters or numbers somewhere in the quilt. After some pondering, I added the JMR since this is destined for Montana. It's our "brand" for all things Montana. It took me several tries to get the letters the way I wanted. So now my top is complete. Next I need to decide how to quilt it and what color to use for the binding. Any suggestions? Should I go with red again or another dark like the inner border?
Enjoy all the other Sew and Tell Friday posts. Have an amazing weekend!!!
Rene, your liberated quilt is stunning! I have been watching it come along. If it were me, I think I would do another, darker, colour for the border. A second red colour would draw the attention away from the centre, I think. But whatever you choose, the quilt is going to be spectacular. I also really like the letters - very, very nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI love those bookmarks - what a wonderful teacher's (or any reader's) gift, especially when paired with a B&N gift card! Also, your liberated Amish quilt is fabulous - I would bind it in the same teal/blue as the outer border - I think to bind it in the red would detract from the center which is definitely the focal point, plus you've already got the monogram for interest. In my opinion, to add another color wouldn't add anything to the quilt (just my 2 cents).
ReplyDeleteIt is so exciting to see your liberated quilt. It is really a work of art. I love the colors and how you have worked with them and the style of your monogram. I vote for a dark binding and not red to keep the center the focus.
ReplyDeleteThe B&N gift cards are great for teachers aren't they? And what a good idea to pair it with a bookmark.
Hi Rene. The bookmarks are so cute. Can I ask what did you put in then center to make them stiffer, Pellon? Thanks,Jodie
ReplyDeleteHey Rene', Fabulous quilt! Well done! Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteThe book marks are adorable, but I absolutely love your Amish quilt, Rene; it's stunning! The red border is perfect!
ReplyDeleteBoth the gifts and the quilt look great. I like the idea for the "emergency" gift.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is wonderful! And bookmarks are the perfect gift, especially when a child can help!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful! The bookmarks turned out great.
ReplyDeletegreat idea with the bookmarks and B&N gift cards!
ReplyDeleteI think it might be fun to quilt in red so it will really pop on the blue. But I'm crazy like that. :)
I know what you mean about Fridays coming round fast! Your quilt is stunning!
ReplyDeleteLove this and the binding should be black!
ReplyDeleteCute, cute bookmarks made by some fun people!
I agree with Dee and Lesly, dark binding! Beautiful, and I love the initials.
ReplyDeleteThose are fun bookmarks! And I love your improv letters on the quilt. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI would bind it with the same fabric as that teal outside border. That would give the center the most impact I think.
Good idea with the bookmarks! I love your Amish Project. Very pretty!
ReplyDeletebookmarks are such a great gift idea. your amish top is so fun but the solids make it so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love the Amish style quilt! Maybe you can make radiating lines that follow the blue strips, onto the dark border.
ReplyDeletelove it! I love the black/turquoise contrast. I'd bind with the red. I'm not good at deciding how to quilt my own, so can't help you there!
ReplyDeleteGreat! Black might be a nice final color. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteYour challenge quilt is beautiful Rene. Definitely another one to add to my long to-do list!
