I saw this on Pinterest and thought it would make a funny birthday card for a friend.

friends

On a more serious note, did you know that today is World Alzheimer's Day?!
Read more on this blog post

I went to quilt class again yesterday.  My Mom asked if I was getting all A's...I told her it was a good thing we weren't being graded ;-)  Our textbook is Karen K. Stone Quilts, and our project is the Cinco de Mayo quilt.  Since it is just a four lesson class, only the toughest parts of four blocks are being taught...otherwise it should be a five year class ;-)

Seriously though, I am learning a lot about paper piecing.  I think I am ready to tackle that Dear Jane quilt now....just got to clear up that long list of WIPs first.
I don't think I'm the only blogger who gets excited to receive an email notification that a comment has been left on their blog post.  Am I alone in being disappointed when NO ONE comments?  Probably not.  For some reason yesterday, I was really disappointed that no one commented on the lovely swap package I received.  I worried that I hadn't done justice with my words to the gorgeous quilt made by Jessica.

However, last night I discovered comments HAD been left on my blog....just no emails to let me know!  I don't normally look on my blog to see if I have any comments....I rely on my mail inbox to let me know.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Not sure if it is a Blogger thing, a Mac thing or something else.  I usually get a stray comment now and then that lands in my Junk folder, but this hasn't happened before, at least not that I am aware.  Hmmm, better look into this...

In other news....my aqua seam ripper finally arrived!!!
Yes, Amy, it was definitely worth the wait!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Wonderful Wednesday!

Between internet issues and my twelve-year old daughter (who started her own-by invitation only-blog) hogging my laptop, this post is a little delayed.

It's the first Wednesday back home, and my plans are to get a much needed pedicure and run some errands before heading home to sew.  I did get all my unpacking, laundry and grocery shopping done yesterday!  Among items unpacked are the lovely fabrics shown above given to me by a good friend for my birthday!!!!  Notice the lovely handmade card and beautiful dragonfly fabric.

More birthday fabric courtesy of Mom and Ron!  Thanks to a generous "gift certificate" (i.e. cash earmarked for Gruber's) I went crazy in the Kaffe department purchasing prints and shot cottons and other random fat quarters.  I only had a few minutes to pet these lovelies (during a break in quilt retreating)  before they were boxed up and shipped home, so it was fun opening this package and seeing them again!!!

Now to run those errands so I can get to sewing.  How do you plan to spend your Wednesday?

Have an amazing day!!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

My Mom is visiting this week and brought these cool "happies"!

These t-shirts themselves appear to be hand-dyed and are appliqued with luscious batik and hand-dyed fabrics.  Even the stitching is fun!

They purchased them at a gift shop near the Rocky Mountain National Park.  I love my dragonfly shirt and  was hoping my daughter's shirt would be too big for her  wanted to steal my daughter's fun flower power shirt.

Haven't shared a picture of Max in a while.  Here he is recuperating from his grooming appointment....while I find mine relaxing and therapeutic...he seems to return home traumatized and exhausted....but clean ;-)

Hope your Wednesday was wonderful!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

I'm still on cloud nine, replaying in my mind all the glorious moments of the quilt retreat!  I'll post more about the retreat tomorrow including pictures of what I worked on, but you can read yesterday's post which also includes links to the other retreaters' recaps.

In the meantime, here's a picture I took yesterday on our walk.  How hilarious is this stop sign?!!!

Have an amazing day!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

My productivity over the weekend did not continue into the week days so far.

I need to pick up the pace or I will not finish this star quilt before the latest revised deadline ;-)
I hope to spend the entire day locked in my sewing room!

What are your plans for this wonderful Wednesday?!

Wonderful Wednesday!

In case you didn't notice, I haven't been around Blogland in a while ;-)
In fact, I haven't sewn, blogged, Tweeted, updated my Facebook status or read a quilt blog in over a month...until today!

Fireworks over Space Mountain.  Photo by Roberto Balbis.
This morning, I pieced two quilt blocks, attended June's OMQG meeting, sent a Tweet or two and posted on this blog.
So, for me, today is definitely a Wonderful Wednesday!

Hope yours is too...have an amazing day!

Wonderful Wednesday!

I think it has been a while since I did a Wonderful Wednesday post with flower pictures...
.....so here you go.....

While sitting in the backyard the other day talking on the phone to my sister, I noticed these gorgeous flowers blooming.

Does anyone know the name of these beauties?

I am not familiar with them, but absolutely love that they are growing in my backyard!

Please tell me if you recognize these flowers.  It was be nice to refer to them by name ;-)

They also come in purple!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!!!
I'm headed to the fabric store....

Wonderful Wednesday!

Forgive the wordy Wonderful Wednesday post...I usually keep these short.

April BOM Mosaic Block

Today is the first meeting of the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild's second year.  I've been busy preparing a power point presentation on quilt blogging and Flickr.
This is my first attempt at using Power Point (I know...sad, isn't it?), so needless to say it took much longer to prepare than it should.

March BOM Cross Block
The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild has some exciting events planned for its second year (including a workshop with....can't say who yet...news will be announced today) so if you or someone you know lives in the central Florida area, please join us!

If you are a regular reader, you know how passionately I support the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.  I  feel that I can never adequately express why that is and how awesome this organization is.  Fortunately, there are others who can.  Please take a moment and read the latest posts by Michele Bilyeu and the AAQI Update.  The following words in particular resonated with me:

"The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative isn’t like other charities. We are all volunteers, we account publicly for every penny that we spend, and we hold impromptu ceremonies before we mail checks because we know what it feels like to lose someone we love one memory at time. And we know what it feels like to make a quilt and pray with each stitch that our work will help win the fight." (from With-Heart-and-Hands blog who quoted Ami Simms, founder and executive director AAQI)

and these:

“I had never even sat in front of a sewing machine before but
when I heard about this Initiative, I just HAD to make a
quilt.” ~Don Hebert (from AAQI Update blog)

The AAQI March online auction is taking place right now.  Go check out the fabulous quilts you can bid on until March 10.  There is also a wide variety of Alzheimer's: Priority quilts for sale all the time.  The above picture shows the latest AAQI quilt that I purchased.  This beauty was made by my quilting buddy and OMQG partner in crime Michele!  {Have you seen those blog buttons that say I am one of the blogging Amy's?  They need one of those for all the Michele/Michelle's out there!}

Every AAQI quilt needs a buyer and new home ;-)

Have an amazing day!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

I found a little bit of time to play with my new toy.

The AccuQuilt Go was much easier to use than I thought....and I haven't even watched the DVD yet ;-)

In under ten minutes, a charm pack was transformed into 86 triangles!  Brilliant!!!

I can't wait to play with my other dies...
...but for now I'm off to have coffee and lunch with friends I haven't seen since last year ;-)
 Have an amazing day!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

Goodies in the mail!!!

Couldn't wait for Christmas!  When I heard Pink Chalk had more Kona Color Cards in stock, I hurried right over!

I knew I wouldn't win this book in any of the wonderful giveaways going on in Blogland, so I ordered my own!

Have an amazing day!!!  I'm going to spend mine locked in my studio....I hope ;-)

Wonderful Wednesday!

Here in central Florida, we are experiencing glorious weather!  Hope you are too!

I've shown this picture numerous times.  I can't help it as it is one of my favorites.  I find myself staring at it contemplating how to make its likeness into a quilt.  Maybe one day I'll have an answer.

In the meantime, have an amazing day!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

This Wonderful Wednesday is not so wonderful...another week of our family taking turns being sick.

However, this wonderful video made by Ami Simms made me smile!  Check it out!
