Sew & Tell Friday #7 - Sort Of

I haven't read the fine print of the Sew and Tell Friday rules (grins), so not sure if this counts. (Actually, I am sure it doesn't.)   If not, you can go here to see where I did finish my waverunner quilt top.  Make sure you check out all the other Friday finishes...click on the Sew and Tell Friday button in my sidebar.

I guess I should have known better, but I really did think I would have this third coin quilt top pieced to show you today.  I had everything ready to go, and then realized my white sashing strips were not long enough.  (This could be a Moments picture...the dirty floor...stack of papers in the corner...)

The sashing is fabric from my stash.  I did not want to have seams in the sashing so I cut the length of my fabric.  Turns out, it's not long enough.  I'm thinking no problem because the other two were rather long. I'll just make this one shorter.  But then I realized that unless I want it narrower, the strips aren't long enough for the top and bottom.  After stewing over it for several hours, I came up with the idea of using the print fabric in the corners....joining the white side strips and the white top and bottom strips.   Depending on how that turns out, I may then do an outer border using the print fabric to make it longer.

Anyway, it is all in my head....even though I'm not describing it properly.  I'm not sure if Amy is having Sew and Tell next Friday or not, but either way, I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Have an amazing weekend!!!

  1. What pretty "coins" on your floor! I've done that where I've thought I had everything just perfectly planned out and accounted for in my brain...only to turn out, well, the brain was wrong! LOL I love the quilt and I'm so glad you shared your stacked papers and floow with us.

Rene', may you have a wonderful weekend and the best Thanksgiving ever surrounded with those you love and a spirit of thankfulness in every heart!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. You are making fast progress on your last coin quilt. After this third one, will you be excited to move to a different style of quilt?

  4. I hate when that happens; your WIP looks good even if the top isn't finished:-) I love coin quilts, they are so forgiving...

  5. oops I think the comment I wrote did not post...anyways I said that I love the types of quilts you have been showing lately and I really want to try one, maybe after the holidays! also good job searching for a solution that didn't require going out and buying more fabric, that's what I would have done.

  8. I'm going to have to try a coin quilt. I've never done one, except for mini's when using up scraps. The more I see them the more I like them for a quick finish, or to show of a fabric line.

  14. very pretty fabrics!! glad you came up with a solution to your sashing. there is nothing more frustrating than finding out your quilt plan is not going to go as you wanted it.

  15. Just beautiful! But I know that frustration of things just not going the way you figured them in your head. I'm sure you'll work it out, though, and will have yet another beautiful coin quilt finished in no time!

A wonderful Thanksgiving to you and yours! :o)

  19. Rene, this looks so, so pretty! And the colours are just perfect for cheering you up during grey winter days (which you probably don#t get in Florida anyway *g*)

    Best wishes from Germany,

  20. It does look good! It will be fun to see how you remedy this.

We will be having sew and tell, although our numbers may be fewer.

  21. Oh my - yes - unfortunately I've done similar things before too. I'm convinced that it is a good thing for creativity's sake because it forces you to work out a creative way to overcome the situation, and often the solution turns out to be so much more interesting than if everything had gone according to plan :)
