It's Friday again! I can't decide if the weeks are dragging or flying by!
Well, for better or worse, it is finished! I'm referring to this project, although I guess the same could be said for this week ;-)
Above is a picture of my Wildflower Art Quilt before it is bound. I seem to finish my projects at night. I also try to type my blog posts at night for publishing the next morning. That doesn't allow for the best picture taking conditions.
Here it is propped up on my cutting table. This is my attempt at making a quilt to look like the wildflower picture that is also in my blog header. In case you think it looks pretty much the same as the first WIP picture (see blog header), I bravely took some close ups of the stitching. I didn't stitch too much in the outer flowers as they are "blown out" in the photograph, and I wanted it to have that same blurry look.
I hand sewed beads in the center of the main flower. When I was tired of that, I surrounded the beads with french knots.
With the machine, I stitched details inside the petals using different shades of yellow and gold threads.
Here is another picture of the main flower. I'm not completely thrilled with the end result, but I am thrilled that I can cross it off my WIP list. This is one of those projects that could go on forever by continuing to add detail to the flowers and the background. Actually, I guess for the first time ever attempting this type of project, I'm happy with it...not completely thrilled...but happy.
I would like to attempt a project of this kind again, but not when I am in a hurry. I wanted to finish this project so that I could say I finished this project...if that makes sense. The next one I make, I'd like to really take my time and put more effort and detail into it. But for now, I can say "I did it!"
Don't forget to see all the Sew and Tell Friday finishes. You won't be disappointed.
Have an amazing weekend!
It turned out so lovely Rene'. I love all the stitching you did on the petals.
ReplyDeleteYou are being way too hard on yourself, I LOVE your Wildflower Art Quilt. I think using the beads in the center surrounded by the french knots gives it such a great look. You did a fabulous job, start to finish. I hope you like it better today, sometimes time and daylight changes everything.
ReplyDeleteHave a relaxing weekend friend, you've earned it.
This is inspired and inspirational Rene'! Firstly, I love the thought and photo that went behind this project. You were true to the colors and the shading with your fabric choice. The beads and stitching are perfect ways to finish it off. I'm just dying to see what binding you use!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
I love all the embellishing...nice job!
ReplyDeleteRene, this is really gorgeous. I love love love the work you've done on these flowers. The stitching on the petals is really perfect - gives a wonderful effect, and I also love the French knots around the beads at the centre. I think you should be very proud of your work - especially if this is your first piece of this kind. I've never tried anything like this, but it looks perfect to me. I think it's smashing!
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job with this Rene! I haven't ever embellished anything with stitchery, beads, and embroidery, but you can bet that I will (probably not until I have a little more sewing time though). It would be a really good project to put together and then bring on vacation to work on while sipping some mulled wine by the fire in Montana...or Vermont ;>
ReplyDeleteYour wildflower quilt is beautiful. I love all the details you added to it with the stitching and beading. You do such amazing work.
ReplyDeleteYou should be THRILLED. Especially since it was your first art quilt. It's very nice. I would not have had the patience for the beading and french knots. That adds so much to it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work :-)
Every one else is right, you are being way too hard on yourself. We tend to judge our projects by seeing what was in our head and measuring what is in our hands against that. Everyone else sees the beauty that is there!! My suggestion is to not look at it for awhile, week, month? They when you do, don't pick!! It is truely wonderful!! It inspires me to do an art quilt. Of course my knees knock a little when I type that!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
KT
I don't see what you'd need to re-do because this one looks great! The french knots and beads give so much dimension to the quilt.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty...what a great winter project!
ReplyDeleteThis is soooo pretty! Love the thread stitching and beading.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, Rene; I love all the little details you have added to the flower!
ReplyDeleteI love it! The beading and the stitching really make it pop! We are our own worst critics. I think it's lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! This is beautiful. That beading is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, the stitching detail and beading give it a really special touch.
ReplyDeleteI think it turned out great! Even the french knots that took over for the beads. Gives a whole other level of texture - just like a real flower. Great job!
