Strings

Today I get to spend a few hours in my studio!!!

I pulled these string blocks and strings from my closet.  I won them a while back from Cluck Cluck Sew, who, thankfully, was tired of them.  I am going to make some more blocks from her unwanted strings and make them into a quilt for our guild's charity project.

After looking through these magazines, I'm rethinking the layout of my studio and did some more rearranging last night.  I need to just make a decision and move on, but I can't seem to do that.  Am I the only one that has this problem?

Book Club

You know, I used to be in a book club with a great group of women of different ages and walks of life.

We met once a month taking turns at each other's homes or a restaurant of our choosing.  I read some great books (and some not so great), ate some terrific food, made new friends and participated in very interesting conversations.

Now it seems these are the only kinds of books I'm interested in reading.   Even if I don't make the patterns described in these books, I derive great inspiration from them.  As far as I know, there aren't any monthly quilting book clubs in my area ;-)

Counting down until school starts.  This is the last day of freedom...my middlest has his senior portrait appointment, and my youngest meets her teacher.  I have a feeling this school year will fly by.

I'll miss the lazy days of summer but am kind of looking forward to some sewing time to myself.

Have an amazing day!

To Do List

My weekend was spent hanging out with family...sweet!

My husband even went with me to JoAnns.  Not really sure why unless it was to make sure I didn't go overboard in spending.   For once I managed to buy what I needed when it is on sale....batting...lots and lots of batting....

...for these three quilts waiting to be quilted.

The kids go back to school Wednesday, and there is so much to do...last minute pool parties...making lists of quilts to work on once I have the day to myself... {grins}....school supplies to purchase...doctor appointments to attend...teachers to meet...summer assignments to finish...

My summer schedule hasn't jived with the Dear Jane classes.  I hope to make the meeting this week.  If so, there are many blocks for me to complete if I want to catch up with the group....another thing to add to my list.

What's on your to do list?

Have an amazing day!

Sew & Tell Friday #37

It's nice to participate in Sew and Tell Friday again...yeah!

My daughter's quilt top is finished.  As I mentioned in a previous post, this is a quickly pieced and a great way to feature those fabrics you really don't want to cut into.  I may use this idea again.

I haven't shown a Moments picture in a while.  This is where the quilt will live...in my daughter's messy room.  I had to take all her stuffed animals off the bed to see how the quilt will look.

Binding and backing fabrics are still being discussed.  I'd like to make some pillow shams.  Anyone know of an easy pattern?  Be sure to look at all the Sew and Tell Friday posts....you'll be glad you did!

Have an amazing weekend!!!

Friends

Aren't friends the best?!!!  Old friends...new friends....quilt friends...non quilting friends...bloggy friends met...bloggy friends you'd like to meet...they are all wonderful!!!

I don't title my Wednesday posts Wonderful Wednesday! for nothing ;-)  Yesterday (as I try to do most Wednesdays) was spent with friends.  Our sixth Orlando Modern Quilt Guild was held yesterday, and we had another awesome meeting.  Here are some of our members showing off the "ugly" fabrics they received.  Can't wait for Show and Tell in October to see what they come up with.

Kathryn gave us a way cool demo on soy milk/watercolor painting on fabric.  Everyone got a chance to try the technique, and we went home with the recipe, instructions and too many new project ideas spinning in our heads!

Cara also brought her brand new baby Daniela Marie to the meeting which thrilled us all.  I resisted the urge to take a picture as Daniela was sleeping so peacefully.  We all agreed it's best not to wake sleeping babies.

Since moving "back to this side of town" as some of my friends put it, I've gone back to having them over for "Wine Down Wednesday".  Now if only I can convert them to quilting.  Hope, where were you when I needed you?

Yesterday, I received this oh-my-gosh-so-fabulous hand made card and needle book from my bloggy friend Anne.  Thank you Anne, I love it!!!  I saw the pictures on her blog, but never thought it was for me...the camera is just perfect for her Film and Thread blog.

Here's the inside ready for my needles!  I have seen these cute needle books all over blogland and have been meaning to make one.  This is one project I can mark off my to-do list....Yeah!  Thanks again Anne, and hope we can get together soon IRL!

Toni, a bloggy friend I did get to meet, sent me this great Brooklyn Revolver after hearing I didn't have one.  It is great for cutting smaller pieces of fabrics...hexies for example.  Between Angela and Thelma's posts and tips on making, traveling, and storing hexies, Anne's needlebook and Toni's Brooklyn Revolver I now have no more excuses to put off making these adorable hexies.

As you can see, I have made ONE....how many hundreds more to go?

Have an amazing day!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

Today is another meeting of the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild.
It's hard to believe that we have been "in business" for six months...
six months of learning from, sharing with and meeting some fabulous people!!!

Here's our first group picture.  Hope to get some more today.

We have a new website....see what you think.
If you are in the central Florida area, we'd love to see you ;-)))

Have an amazing day!!!
