Friday Finish: Baby Steps

This hardly qualifies as a finish, but I'll take it!

Nine patch
It took two attempts before December's MCM Bee block (a nine patch using reproductionish prints) for Mary was satisfactory.  The first block only measured 15.25" instead of 15.5".  My arm is no longer in a cast, but my wrist is still swollen, stiff and achy.  I am finding that stitching and all that goes with it is more difficult than I had imagined.  Sewing isn't that painful, but I can't say the same for rotary cutting and pressing.

Botanics with a few Architextures fabrics

starting a Liberty of London stash
In addition to sewing, I finished wrapping all my recent fabric purchases on comic book boards.  It's a nice feeling have that project completed and the fabric no longer in piles on my cutting table (and ironing board and on the floor and on chairs....).  All that down time meant too much free time to browse online fabric shops and their end of the year sales.  I think I went a little overboard.

adorable cowboy Christmas fabric

I succumbed to my Botanics and Liberty of London craving, added to my novelty print collection and couldn't resist this adorable Christmas fabric.

I am calling this a finish (it's all relative, right?!) and linking up with Amanda Jean's finish it up Friday.  Happy Friday y'all!
Happy stitching and thanks for stopping by,

  1. A finish is a finish even if it is small. Hope the swelling in your wrist goes down soon.

  2. If you can't sew (or cut) much yet, at least you have lots of pretty new fabric to play with! That would make me feel (a little) better anyway.

  3. Love, love, love the cowboy Christmas fabric. How many designs do you have queued up in your head waiting for your arm to be better?

  4. A tidy fabric stash is a finish in my book! You can only do what you can do, so don't stress! I hope things settle down soon. Do you have any exercises to do to strengthen your wrist?

  5. Awwww I can't imagine not being able to sew when I wanted. I sure hope your wrist gets 100% soon. Your block looks super!

  7. I winced for you at the rotary cutting part! Ouch!

Do you soak your arm/wrist? Just feel so sad for you, but thankful you will heal! Congrats on the fabric scores!

  8. Hope you heal up very soon- I know how frustrating it can be when the body isn't cooperating! :D
I'm trying REALLY hard to not buy fabric this year! I have a pretty big stash, not much time to sew, and that is not a good combination…

  9. Ohhh, I do hope your hand get stronger fast. I had a bum thumb recently and it made me realize how much pressure it takes to hold the ruler in place while cutting.
