Art Collection

I am thrilled to read all the lovely comments left yesterday for my giveaway.  Some of you have even become followers!  Thank you!!!  The giveaway is open until Thursday.  Click here if you haven't entered yet for a chance to win these batik fat quarters and Color Shuffle quilt book by Karla Alexander.

It has been difficult finding time to spend in my studio.  I am supposed to be packing for our move across town which makes it tough to justify playing with fabric.

I did some embroidery while watching 24 with my husband, and that's about it.  I have an idea of incorporating this little piece into a quilt mini.

Do you ever think of quilts as pieces of art?  I do, and I have a small art collection that I hope will grow.  I'd like to share pictures of three art quilts I have purchased from AAQI.

This piece is titled Memories and is made by Nellie Bass Durand, an incredible artist.  She explains her technique for this postcard here.  I am delighted to own an original Nellie Bass Durand!  You really need to check out her blog and see some of her amazing work.

Michele Bilyeu made this incredible Transitioning Between Polarities art quilt which I was lucky enough to win in the May auction.  Michele heads the Liberated Quilting Challenge which encourages its members to make art quilts for AAQI.  Michele recently wrote a touching blog post about caring for her mother who suffers from Alzheimers.  I really admire Michele and other care givers.

I fell in love with Blue Ocean while browsing the Quilts for Sale page.  When I realized Beth made this fabulous quilt, I snatched it right up.  I have been a Follower of hers for a while, and absolutely love her quilts!!!  Now I have one!

I have a few others in my growing art collection, but I'll save those for another day.  Don't forget, if you want to enter the giveaway, go here.

Have an amazing day!!

  1. Oh, Rene', now I know where the Nellie postcard went that I wanted ;) Love, love, love that you ended up with mine. And your embroidery is exquisite considering the shoot 'em up gunfire of 24 last night...amazing how multi talented you truly are!!!!

  4. It's always nice to know where a piece that I've let loose into the world finds a home. It delights me to know that you have it and that it brought a nice donation to further research for greater understanding about Alzheimers.
