Sick and Tired...

...of being sick and tired.  I have all these ideas floating in my head trying to get out ;-)

That's probably because I spent all day yesterday on Flickr.  It's easy to lose oneself there.  I did learn how to use the mosaic maker tool. The above mosaic shows a sample of quilty goodness from our guild's Flickr pool.

This mosaic shows some of my favorites from the Scrappy Mug Rug Swap's Flickr pool.  I'm inspired and can't wait to make some mug rugs myself....today!!

Mug Rugs and Fabric

Occasionally I "do the Twitter", but I still don't have a clue.  

Recently, I've seen quite a number of tweets about mug rugs.  Not wanting to ask the obvious, I searched mug rugs on Flickr.  Boy, am I in trouble!

I'm probably the only person who hasn't heard of mug rugs, but just in case I'm not, mug rugs are basically oversized coasters.  These are a great size because you can showcase some cool fabrics and patterns without them being covered up by your coffee mug.  Another cool thing is, I finally found a project for my Blah Blah Blah fabric.

Keep in mind, these are practice mug rugs and WIPs at that.  The binding isn't sewn down on the left one, and there is no binding at all on the right one....not to mention my sewing machine didn't want to cooperate...  I thought the Blah Blah Blah fabric was appropriate as that is how I feel before I've had my morning coffee!

These coffee cup fabrics I've had for a while, and I'm still using leftover binding.  Sweet!

Here's what happens when I hang out in my LQS with time on my hands and no list.

I have zero will power.  At least these fabrics were in the bargain bin marked down 50% ;-)

Wonderful Wednesday!

Plans

Hope y'all  had a great Labor Day weekend.  I had big plans for the weekend, but you know what they say about the best laid plans...  My family has been taking turns being sick, and this weekend it was my turn.

I did get a few things done before all I could do was lay on the couch feeling ill.  I got my daughter's quilt basted, and we discussed how she wanted it quilted.

Luckily, she went with my favorite quilting method....grid lines.  I was only able to get about two lines quilted, but at least it's a start.

I'm still plugging along on the charity wheelchair quilt.

I"m planning on quilting some today...we'll see how that goes.  What do you have planned today?

Sew & Tell Friday #39

Yesterday was the first day since I moved that I felt like I really accomplished anything quilting wise.  Organizing my studio must have done the trick.  It felt really good, and I am hoping it is a new trend ;-)  Now my husband says I should get back to the rest of the house!

I did some basting, quilting and binding on three different projects I've had lying around.

This AAQI mini was started over the summer while I was in Montana.  The top was done as part of my 15 Minutes of Play, and then it went into a pile of tops waiting to be sandwiched.

Anyone who reads my blog frequently knows that I am not comfortable with free motion quilting....to say the least.  However, I realize the only way to get better is to actually just do it.  So I tried my hand with quilting some hearts in the border using a variegated thread...not bad for a first attempt.

The rest of the quilting was done with white thread echoing the cross a couple of times and then doing some loops.  The binding was machine stitched.

I experimented with different photo locations in my front yard.  I love the old trees we have, but the shade really messes with the exposure ;-)

I finished my But I have nothing to wear! quilt.  I just love this pattern.  {Thanks again Mrs. Moen!}  I had fun picking out the dress fabrics and quilting the straight lines with multi colored variegated thread.

My machine and I had issues when it came to quilting the words.  I ended up switching to a different variegated thread and that seemed to do the trick.  This picture was taken before all the binding had been hand sewn to the back...wanted to take advantage of the sunlight.

Here's the back.  Again, I just love this fun backing fabric.  At the last minute I remembered to add my Rene' creates tag.

The third quilt I worked on was this wheelchair quilt for our guild's charity project.  I don't have an updated picture, but yesterday I cut the backing, layered, basted and quilted about a third of the top.

At Last

I have my studio organized!!!!  Well...at least as organized as it's gonna get ;-)

After rearranging the sewing machine, cutting table, ironing board and bookcase for what seemed like a million times, it's just the way I like it!  Actually, I love it!!!

While taking care of my sick baby, I pulled all most of the fabric from the closet and got to work sorting.  Here's a view looking down on my new IKEA shelves.  I took close up pictures of each cubby to remind me of how it once was organized ;-)  There is a cubby (or two) for Christmas fabrics; for batiks organized by colors; cubbies for quilt kits;  several cubbies for fabric sorted by colors; etc.  There is even a cubby dedicated to the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild!

I love having all my jelly rolls, honey buns and designer rolls in one place.

Same goes for charm squares, layer cakes and extra binding strips.

My bookcase even got a cleaning.  I left some of my new fabric I'm still "petting" here.  The original design wall is mostly covered since rearranging the bookcase.  You can see my "ugly" fabric peeking out on the side.  I added a bigger design wall in my closet.  This wasn't my original plan, but I like how it is working out.  The wall is huge but hidden when I close the door.

I found these quilt kits I had bought in Hawaii years ago.  I had just started quilting and had no idea what I was doing.  Don't know what possessed me to buy these paper pieced patterns....they aren't for beginners.

My sewing machine table even does double duty as a desk ... when I need to make sure my daughter is doing her homework ;-)

I even found a little time to sew... when my daughter took a break from her homework.

It's that time again...first Wednesday of the month...Orlando Modern Quilt Guild meeting!

At the time of this posting, I have a sick child at home who may have to miss school...again which means I may have to miss the meeting.  For more than one reason, I hope my daughter gets to feeling better soon.
